Primary School Student’s Scientist Perception and their Attitudes towards Science: A Case Study

Scholars report that the students’ interest in STEM declines and suggest to approach them earlier. This case study with convenient sample of seven primary school students investigates view science scientists examine following research questions Dutch lower secondary context: (1) What are young students' images perceptions their work? (2) How do conceptualize scientist? (3) attitudes toward science, careers involvements? To find an answer these questions, four different measurements were employed study. First, joined a photo-elicitation interview (PIE) exploring values perceptions, second, Word Association Test (WAT) searching cognitive structures, third, responded attitude questionnaire lastly, they completed Draw-a-Scientist (DAST) follow-up semi structured individually. The analysis showed there stereotypical image among this environmental context pandemic period have influence on perceptions. conceptualized realistically higher positive towards than career involvement future. multiple provided broader perspective view. discussion extended methodological aspects suggestions given.
